General Election 2016

Factsheet for parents to use with election candidates.

Posted: 10th February 2016

DeafHear.ie 2016 General Election

The general election will be held on Friday 26, February.  This means that your local political representatives (including government ministers, TDs and candidates from every party) will be canvassing in your area.

This is a great opportunity to ask them to provide better and fairer services for deaf and hard of hearing children and young people. This is a factsheet you can give them to take away.

We also encourage you to share your own personal story and experience of deafness/ hearing loss to help the candidates understand that statistics are not just a number, but real children and young people. Real families, just like your own.

over 4,000 children diagnosed with hearing loss in Ireland

The facsheet was developed by DeafHear and Our New Ears, and we hope you find it useful in raising issues with election candidates when they call to your door. The factsheet provides some key information about gaps in services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in Audiology, Speech and Language Therapy, Early Intervention and Education. We encourage you to use the factsheet to impress on election candidates the many issues affecting children and young people with hearing loss.
