World Hearing Day on March 3rd, 2016 aims to raise awareness and promote hearing care across the world. The theme for World Hearing Day 2016 is ‘Childhood hearing loss: Act now, Here is how!’ The World Health Organisation (WHO) is highlighting the fact that up to 60% of childhood hearing loss is preventable.


Consequences, if not addressed… World Hearing Day on March 3rd, 2016.


The WHO is marking World Hearing Day by publishing a booklet ‘Childhood Hearing Loss: Act Now, Here’s How!’, which provides information on the prevalence of hearing loss in childhood worlwide, the impact on child development, and appropriate steps for prevention and intervention.

Brendan Lennon, DeafHear’s Head of Advocacy says the booklet provides valuable information for both parents and health practitioners. “The information on Page 7 on the prevention of CMV infection is very important for pregnant women, while promoting awareness of the dangers of loud sounds from listening to music and attending sporting events on Page 12 is of interest to both parents and health policy makers,” said Lennon.
