Earlier this week Irish International Jeff Hendrick visited Deaf Village Ireland (DVI) for the first time in his new ambassadorial role with DeafHear.

Jeff is excited about supporting awareness of issues related to deafness and hearing loss. Initially he is involved in promoting DeafHear’s Hearing Aid service and in encouraging young Deaf soccer players to get involved in the Irish Deaf soccer team who are engaged in qualifying for the Deaf European Championships.

Jeff was very impressed with the facilities in DVI, as were the many sports journalists who arrived to interview him! Jeff said that his grandparents had a hearing loss, and the Hendricks are also very friendly with a local family who have two young adults who were both born profoundly Deaf. Jeff himself is very interested in learning some Irish Sign Language in the future.

During his time in DVI Jeff visited DeafHear’s Resource Centre and took part in a photo shoot to promote DeafHear’s Hearing Aid Service. He also met with Deaf Sports Ireland representative Joey Watson and the manager of the Irish Deaf Soccer team Jamie Wilson to create awareness about the Irish Deaf soccer team and how young players with hearing loss can get involved.

Jeff will be back in DVI in the near future to help promote awareness about hearing loss and deafness issues and we are looking forward to working with him. He clearly had a good time as he tweeted later “Really enjoyed my trip to @DeafVillageIre today, look forward to getting back there again. Met some lovely people.”

We enjoyed meeting you too Jeff, and we wish you and the Irish team the very best of luck in France in June!
