Independence Living Skills – Personal SafetyToday, Deafhear.ie invited the Kerry Deaf group to attend the independent living skills programme. The talk on personal safety was given by our local community Garda, Dianne Collins. She told them how to protect themselves if they were a victim of crime on the street.. They also learnt how to be in control of the situation, what to do next, and how to contact the Garda.
The group were also fascinated about the simple brilliant idea called “ICE” on their mobile phone. They didn?t know what ICE was, which stand for “In Case of Emergency”. They were amazed how simple it was by nominating a person of their choice and put down the name ICE so the guards can look up for it on their mobile in case if they were victim of the crime or accident We then had a fine home made soup for lunch. Marion Hogan made Leek and Celery soup for the group. This went down a storm and not a drop was left! The next session will be based on personal safety on the internet and we look forward to it already.
