Auditory Verbal Play Sessions

Posted: 6th October 2016 Auditory Verbal Play Sessions: Rosie Gardner 2016.

These are FREE group sessions which are fully funded by Our New Ears (ONE) and the wonderful fundraising efforts of the parents, families and friends of ONE.

The group sessions will be led by Rosie Gardner, Specialist Teacher for the Deaf.  Statement from Rosie “I am a highly qualified and experienced specialist teacher of the deaf.  I am also training as an Auditory Verbal Therapist. My undergraduate degree in my early 20s from Manchester University was in Audiology and Education of the Deaf and 15 years later, I successfully completed an Advanced Diploma in Hearing Impairment.  Over the past 30 years, I have worked in a number of settings – residential schools for the deaf, Resource bases for the Deaf and for the last 20 years, I worked in a Support Service for the Hearing Impaired and in 2005, I was appointed Head of the service.  I left the Service in August 2016 and I now work privately.”

The aim for the group sessions is to give parents ideas and techniques they can use to encourage a child’s listening and language to develop while giving the children an hour of fun filled activities.   The individual sessions provided with a parent are tailored to the child’s needs. Rosie carry’s out an assessment of the child’s language and based on assessments, her own informal observations and information from the parent(s), she tailors the programme to the child’s needs.

Rosie likes to carry out all her sessions in collaboration with the parents so that it is team work. All her sessions are play based.  The programme adds meaning to what the children hear. For each part of the programme (music, story and activity) Rosie will use AV techniques to show you how they can try them at home

Siblings are also welcome.  The course is for 5 sessions, therefore  it would be extremely beneficial if parents committed to attending all the sessions.

Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate all bookings and family members who request a place, places are limited and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and in consultation with Rosie Gardner as the course facilitator.

All sessions will be held in the DeafHear Building in the DVI, Cabra, Dublin 7.  Please see proposed dates of the groups below:
