DeafHear Easter 2017

PLEASE REMEMBER: ‘LEARNING TO LISTEN’ GROUPS ARE NOT AVT?
Please contact Rosie Gardner directly if you would like an individual AVT session with your child. These are also usually held in Cabra.

It is not possible, when in a group situation, to ensure that each child has the activity at their level or that they have acquired a particular skill and so these sessions are simply to enable parents to take away some ideas that they may like to continue with themselves.

Saturday 6th May – Incy wincy spider

Saturday 20th May – Humpty Dumpty

Saturday 3rd June – Jack and Jill went up the hill

Saturday 17th June – hickory dickory dock

The 4 sessions will be based on a different nursery rhyme each time and at by the last session, we will have created our own book of nursery rhymes to take home.

Nursery rhymes are of great value to all children and are therefore doubly important for our deaf children.  The rhymes are a huge resource for us to use and I use them alongside music and lots of activities.  The rhymes help to develop language and auditory memory to develop, encourage sequencing, picture identification, phonemic awareness and speech development as well as awareness of the stress and rhythm of speech. It is the start of reading skills beginning.

Music is a vital resource to begin to stimulate early listening skills and hook them in and train the baby and toddler’s brain to listen.

Booking is essential.
Closing date Tuesday 2nd May.
