Today, Killarney hosted an important information workshop on “Skin Cancer” for the Deaf.

Through out the workshop, we gave talked on how to protect your skin from harmful sunrays by been sun smart.

With the information pack we got from the Irish Cancer Society, it showed us how easily the sun can cause cancer to the skin. It also gave us tips on how to protect our skins by using sun cream with UVA and UVB formula protection, by wearing a hat, long sleeves shirt and wrap around sun glasses. We also learned how important it is to stay out of the sun between 11am to 3pm which is the danger time.

The feedback from the participants was very positive, and a deep discussion on moles led to a show and tell session. We saw example of different types of moles and some of the participants are planning to visit their GP to have them checked out.

This was followed by a wonderful lunch. This also gave the participants the opportunity to chat about what is happening in their lives.

Everyone enjoyed the day and found it very beneficial.
