Killarney Tinnitus Awareness Week 2014

On Tuesday 4th February Killarney DeafHear opened its doors to a large group of people from around Cork and Kerry – all of whom were there to learn more about Tinnitus and how to manage it.

We were delighted by the high turn out – which followed an awareness raising campaign with all GPs of Kerry as well as local media.

We started with a short power point presentation that led nicely into contributions from the group. People shared how they had been affected by Tinnitus as well as what strategies they have used to manage their Tinnitus.

After a quick break we settled in for a really great session with Liz Dowling, relaxation therapist. Liz spoke to us about the importance of managing stress and shared with the group some useful techniques to help with relaxation.

Feedback on the day was extremely positive with people going away feeling more informed and more optimistic about their Tinnitus journey forward. Many within the group expressed an interest in coming together to form a support group in the future.
