We started with a trip to an old favourite – Kennedys Farm.

We enjoyed mingling among the animals – from chicks and kittens, to pups and goats, horses and sheep, rabbits and ducks, there was so much to do and see! The pygmy potbelly pigs were a real delight and we all enjoyed following them around the yard. The children really enjoyed feeding time for the lambs when we got a chance to bottle feed them.

The sun shone all day long and we enjoyed an extended picnic lunch together – amidst the company of some very greedy goats!

Old friend ships rediscovered, new friendships blossomed. With lots of new families joining our group this year it is great to see the friendly, warm, energetic welcome they receive from the rest of the group – adults and kids both!

For our next trip we went to Muckross House Traditional Farm. Another glorious day! Again we had a huge crowd with us for the day!

Visiting all the old cottages and seeing a bit of history was really interesting, and tasting the delicious soda bread baked on the open fire was something we all relished!

Wandering around the farm, chatting with other families, kids playing on the haystacks, we experienced the joy of simpler times. And no one seemed to miss the IPads or games consoles!

For our last adventure we headed to Dingle for a visit to the Aquarium. As this is our forth family event this year the kids and parents are all getting really comfortable with each other.

We all headed for the shark feeding time straight off. Expecting these fierce creatures we were a little surprised to see them being bossed about by an elderly loggerhead turtle that apparently rules the tank!

We had the chance to hold some crabs and stroke some flat fish as they swam by. But by far the stars of the show were the penguins. A brand new baby penguin had been born a few days before our visit and we saw some great video footage of baby and daddy penguin.

Feeding time was fun to watch and there was plenty of splashing around as they dived for their food.

To finish the day many of our families decided to have a stroll around Dingle Town as the day was so pleasant.

These events get more and more popular! And little wonder – they are far more than just a fun day out!

For the kids with hearing loss it’s a chance to be with others like them. It’s also a good opportunity to check out the latest fashion trends in hearing aids accessories – from sparkly coloured ear moulds to hearing aid jewellery!

For the parents the sharing and support that happens at these events is wonderful to see. Families celebrating each other’s successes, supporting and encouraging when one experiences a difficulty.
The wisdom and experience in this group of parents is a fantastic resource for all.

Looking forward to our Halloween get together already!
