Louise is a member of DeafHear’s West Team based in Galway, and received her award at the Irish Association of Social Work Awards Ceremony in the Double Tree Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin.

Louise is a native of Galway and qualified as a social worker in 2012 in UCC. She joined DeafHear in January 2013, and had previously worked in Ireland, Australia and Canada in business and social care.

Louise won her award based on the insight and compassion she brings to her work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, whether it is supporting parents with a newly diagnosed baby or a person with mental health difficulties.

She is particularly skillful in working with younger service users, and has embraced the cultural aspect of working with Deaf clients through Irish Sign Language.

Louise is also a great team player with a can do attitude, and brings a sense of humour to her interactions with colleagues and service users.

DeafHear is very proud of Louise’s achievement. Her award helps raise the profile and awareness of social workers working within the field of deafness and hearing loss, and highlights the importance of having specialist health professionals with an understanding of how deafness and hearing loss impacts on people’s lives.

Congratulations and well done Louise
from all your colleagues in DeafHear!
