SpeedText is an electronic note-taking system using two laptops, one for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing person and the other for the specially trained operator.

For a group of people, the SpeedText is projected onto a large overhead screen for everyone to follow. A SpeedText operator is trained in condensing language, thus transmitting the meaning of the points discussed, not the actual word-for-word transcription.

SpeedText is not a verbatim service

Who is SpeedText for?

It is primarily for Deaf, deafened and Hard of Hearing people who have a good command of the English language.

Where is SpeedText used?

It can be used in a variety of settings, including third level education, business meetings, conferences and training sessions.

Booking a SpeedText Operator

Please note that an operator needs a break every 30 minutes, so if an event is more than two hours, two operators may be required. Advance copy of any papers or teaching materials allows the operator to prepare properly beforehand.
